Whether you’re getting an entire room ready, or simply have a corner prepared in the master bedroom, we’ve got some amazing nursery decor tips and tricks that work just about anywhere…

1. Keep it simple

The most common decorating and decor faux pas is trying to do too much in the one space. This is particularly ineffective if the chosen space is a small one, as nurseries usually are.

Try to think of two or three things you’d like to include, and then work around these concepts to create a cohesive but simple space. After all, you want the nursery to have a soothing effect on your little one.

We suggest using simple colour schemes as opposed to loud and bold murals. Many first-time parents get overexcited at the prospect of featuring their favourite childhood characters, but especially to start with, your nursery should be cosy but somewhat simplistic in its design and decor.

2. Use removable wallpaper

As you know, we have a soft spot for removable wallpaper however, it’s particularly relevant and effective for a child’s nursery decor.

This is a room that will inevitably change and develop over the course of bub’s life. It may be their room from infant to teenager, or perhaps it’ll play the role of nursery for more than one child.

With that in mind, it’s necessary that the nursery is able to adapt. It needs to be able to keep up with trends, or the likes and dislikes of multiple little ones, plus – mum and dad have to like it.

3. Make the most of your space

Not all of us are lucky to have an entirely separate room for our nurseries. Perhaps you’ve got a small apartment, or maybe there are already older siblings occupying the spare room… Whatever the situation, there are ways that you can create privacy for you and your partner, as well as keep the nursery looking tidy and contained.

Hanging sheer or white curtains to close off a space is a great way of segregating an interior. These types of fabric also create the illusion of a light and airy room, while providing you with much sought-after privacy.

You can also achieve this sort of division by using solid, sturdy furniture like a chest of drawers or freestanding wardrobe. Place your furniture at the foot of your bed or beside the cot in order to create a bit of segregation in a single room.

If privacy isn’t your primary concern, there are other ways to make the most of your space. For example, see if any of your furniture can serve a two-fold purpose. Perhaps a chest of drawers could also act as a bedside table, or a change table for bub.

Remember to take advantage of wall space as well. Chests of drawers, bed side tables and the like all take up valuable floor space, and can make a room look cluttered, particularly when there’s already a bed and a cot.

Floating wall shelves are a great place to store those things that you use on a regular basis – nappies, powders, creams, and clothes. They’re also great to use for displaying decor accents like toys, books and artwork.
