5 Big, Bold and Bright Colours For Your Interiors

August 30 2017

It’s an exciting year for interior design in terms of colour. So far in 2017 we’ve seen a movement away from the popular pastels and greys of the previous year, and have ventured onto more daring hues.

5 Big, Bold and Bright Colours For Your Interiors

It’s all about being big, bold and bright, with many shades taking inspiration from our favourite gemstones, florals and fruits. Our stylists are in love with eye-catching statement walls and half wall designs, where soft furnishings can then used to complement the colour scheme.

We’ve scoured the magazines, blogs and expert’s advice for what we think are the best of the big, bold and bright colours for your interiors. With without further ado, let’s dive in…

1. Primrose yellow

The first of our favourite picks is this stunning primrose yellow half-wall design. This hue is absolutely on-point, creating an instant positive vibe in any space. In the example above from Vogue Living, our stylists particularly love the simplicity of the half-wall aesthetic and the staggered artwork gallery.

2. Plum

If you’re after a beautiful, moody hue, look no further than shades of plum. This delectable purple has graced the covers of numerous glossy magazines and the homes of many a celebrity. We love its rich shade and versatile nature, and think it’s perfect for making a statement in a master bedroom or glamourous powder room.

3. Emerald Green

In case you haven’t noticed, it’s been all about green this year, and this stunning shade of emerald certainly has us green with envy! As Pantone’s colour of the year, we’ve definitely seen our fair share of this hue pop up in the interior design world. And we’re loving it.

When green is done right (like above) it has the potential to breathe new life into a space, and create a sense of grandeur. Whether you opt to colour an entire feature wall, or simply update your soft furnishings, the power of Pantone green is real.

4. Flame

Why paint the town red, when you can paint it flame? This amazing hue has a unique ‘burnt’ feel to it that has become all the rage in home renovations of late. Like many of these bold shades, the beauty of ‘flame’ is that you can dress it up or down, depending on your own tastes. You can opt for a ‘safe’ feature wall, or take a risk and do an entire space.

We’re also loving it in smaller bursts, like in the armchair featured in the Vogue Living photo above, and even in smaller pieces like cushions and throws.

5. Lapis Blue

A list of big, bold and bright colours wouldn’t be complete without a shade of blue, and in this case it’s lapis blue – inspired by the shade of the famous gemstone. This blue is eye-catching, regal and intense in all the right ways. It works well with neutrals but also with contrasting colours if you want to create a really bold look throughout your interiors.

Our stylists are gushing about the white bedhead and contrasting lapis blue feature wall in the image above from Decorilla.
