Working across multiple styles, mediums, platforms with a huge range of clients has seen Cara’s work and style expand, diversify and radically flourish.

Luxe Artist Spotlight – Cara Jane Diffey

Tell us about your artistic background?

As a child I was always very creative, often drawing and doodling all over note books and pieces of paper. Art and creativity was always a part of my life however it was never taken seriously until my early 20’s. After dropping out of unrelated bachelor degrees, I finally made the move to Sydney where I pursued a bachelor of Design at The University of New South Wales.

This was a great start and peek into the world of design however I was still never entirely satisfied. It wasn’t until I realised that I could make money illustrating images and creating in this way that I became truly excited. Having a career as an illustrator or artist was never something that was considered or pushed through out both high school and university. It’s great to know that it can be possible.

Has there been a defining moment in your career so far? Tell us about it.

My work extends across various mediums and platforms however working with Speedo was probably a major highlight. I designed a limited edition boys Jammer (swim trunks for kids between the ages of 10 – 15), it was awesome. They wanted a heap of skulls, bones, gory stuff and tonnes of colour. Right up my alley.

There has been many moments, all of which have shaped the way that I have grown as an artist and illustrator. All of these individual moments all amount to becoming the individual that I am today.

What’s your workspace like? Is there something about that particular interior that nurtures your creativity?

My workspace is at home in Annandale, Sydney. It is essentially a desk with my desktop computer and Wacom Cintiq tablet (where all the magic happens). There is lots of different art from both friends and heroes that I have hung in the space, along with doodles and cool labels/stickers that I have collected over time. It’s important to surround yourself with things that you like and things that initially made you make the move to becoming an artist in the first place.

Where can you see your pieces in people’s homes?

Murals, walls and big canvas pieces is all that I could imagine. The bigger, brighter and crazier the better.

What’s next for you? What are your plans for your art in the near future?

For 2017, I’m not too sure. There are so many things that I want to achieve that I’m often struggling to know where to start. All good things come with time, patience and with practice. I draw and create every day with the intention of always becoming better as great moments will evolve out of hard work and an open mind.
