I was gifted with my first set of Windsor and Newton Gouache paints as a young teenager and ever since, art and design has been my passion. I am a Surface Pattern Designer with a history in the Wallpaper and Textile Industry. I started on a foundation course in art and design and after completing this I moved on and gained a HND in Surface Pattern Design and Printed Textiles. My designs have been exhibited at Surtex trade fair in New York and Heimtextil trade fair Germany, with the guidance of a design agent whilst freelancing. I have previously sold designs in the UK, Belgium, France, Spain and most recently in New Zealand, where I moved to from the UK with my partner and two children.
Inspiration comes to me in many forms, whether it be: Chinoiserie inspired florals, Jacobean crewel embroidery, Japanese pattern or historic ornament and pattern. The fusion of rustic, aged textures with contemporary and opulent designs appear a lot throughout my artwork, as this is what really appeals to me. I am at my ‘happy place’ when creating pattern designs, layered textures and choosing my colour palettes. It is a pleasurable escape, where the hours seem to fly by. When I am not painting, I am spending time with my family or being creative elsewhere, whether this is in the house or in the garden.
