What’s New, What’s Next: Design Trends for 2018

January 17 2018

Interior design trends are always coming up with something new and exciting for the next phases of style. Here at Luxe Walls, we are constantly making sure we are at the head of these changing looks, and as we head into 2018 you can be sure the design world will be hitting a refresher on the trends. We know it can sometimes be hard to keep up with all this design progress, so we thought we would give you a heads up on what’s hot for 2018 in interior design.

1. Wabi-Sabi

One of the biggest trends to look out for this new year is Wabi-Sabi. Inspired by Japanese influence, this style is all about embracing the beauty in imperfections. The best part about this trend is that it appreciates the life of objects and parts of your interiors as they age.

The cracks and worn down aspects of certain elements help to add colour and texture, giving your space a simplistic rustic effect. Wabi-Sabi is economically feasible by recycling older decorative components, whilst also environmentally sustainable by reusing and reinventing materials. On all accounts, it looks like Wabi-Sabi is a yes from all designers.

2. Dark Wood

It looks like we could be shifting away from those popular blonde woods that have been in demand for the Scandinavian style in recent years. These darker, earthy tones will give an extra sense of sophistication into your space, and can be dressed up or down with decorative elements depending on your taste.

3. Metallics: Brass

Moving away from the previous style wave of rose gold and copper, brass seems to be the new metallic of the moment. Brass can be used as a fabulous rustic element, reflecting a great industrial style that works in almost any space. As well as this, silver metallics are predicted to also make a comeback later in the year.

4. Earthen Luxury

As our lives are becoming more and more bustling and hectic, a style that reflects our homes and spaces as havens of relaxation are really being pushed to the front of interior design. Earthen luxury can be seen as similar to the new Wabi-Sabi trend, focussing on simplicity and relaxing elements to reconnect with nature. The style revolves around soft shades of greys, browns and whites to exude a calm ambience. Organic materials and traditional handcrafts will continue to gain momentum.

5. Greenery

Adding greenery and plants to a space is majorly on trend at the moment. Plants are a great way to create a relaxed effect to your home, and can easily be styled with almost any other trend. Plants infuse your space with colour, whilst appealing to the up and coming environmentally sustainable essence of interior design. Greenery is a great fun way to get creative, using both hanging and floor models or even painting your pots in patterns that complement your interiors.

Here at Luxe Walls, we even have wallpapers that are all about greenery to give your house that extra natural touch. The possibilities really are endless!
