Artist Spotlight: De-Anne Strange, Colour from the Wheatbelt

Artist Spotlight: De-Anne Strange, Colour from the Wheatbelt — Luxe Walls journal

De-Anne Strange paints from her family farm near Bruce Rock, in the central Wheatbelt of Western Australia, surrounded by open skies, native bushland and a landscape that changes by the week.

Her work is intuitive and layered: spray paint, acrylic, ink, oil pastel and collage built up into pieces that hum with movement and colour, often incorporating gum leaves and wildflowers gathered from the land around her. Her collection is available through her artist page.

    Art Made to Be Felt

"Art made to be felt as much as seen" is how De-Anne describes her work. Each piece is built in layers of movement, texture and luminous colour drawn from wildflowers and the land, and her hope is that it invites you to slow down, reconnect and feel a little more at home in your own space.

That philosophy translates unusually well to wallpaper. A painting you live with on a wall every day is exactly the kind of slow looking her work asks for.

Her work has been recognised with the Nature Book International Award and the Emerging Artworks International Award, and exhibited with Juniper Galleries, Oxford Street Gallery in Perth, Aspire Gallery in Queensland and Arrival Gallery in Lisbon.

    The Designs

The collection spans repeating wallpapers and a striking set of murals.

Gumtrees & Wagtails pairs two Australian icons in Blush, Dusty Blue and Green colourways, playful enough for family spaces, gentle enough for bedrooms.

Wildflowers, Blue Everlastings, Gum Leaves and Eucalyptus Love draw directly on the Western Australian flora around the farm: soft botanicals in misty blues, mints and blushes that sit naturally within our Australiana collection and botanical collection.

Sunflowers in Natural and Blue brings warmth and optimism, a strong choice for kitchens and entryways.

The murals are where De-Anne's painterly scale really shows: Pink Flowering Gum, Under the Gum Tree, Wonder in the Wind, Serenity, Earth's Celebration and others, each a single expansive composition rather than a repeat. A mural turns one wall into a landscape.

    Where It Works

The repeating designs suit bedrooms, nurseries and living spaces where you want softness and colour. The murals belong on feature walls: behind a bed, along a dining room, or in an entryway where the full composition can be taken in at once.

Every design is removable peel and stick, printed to order at $99/m². Order a $10 sample to see the colour in your own light, and run your measurements through the calculator for an instant price.

    Original Art, Properly Supported

Every De-Anne Strange design is used under licence and printed on demand, with a share of each purchase going directly to De-Anne. It is original Western Australian art, supporting the artist who painted it.
