Artist Spotlight: Cat Bellini, Hand-Drawn Stories for the Home

Every Cat Bellini wallpaper starts with a line drawn by hand.

Cat is an illustrator and designer, and the creative behind Eldie Creative Studio. Each of her designs begins as an original hand-drawn or painted artwork, in ink and pencil on paper or painted by hand on the iPad. Her work is entirely human-made. Between Two Homes

Cat has lived between the UK and Australia, and you can see both places in her work: British heritage florals sit alongside Australian coastal ease, all with a love of story-led interiors. The collections that come out of that mix feel layered, expressive and joyful.

For Cat, the process, the experimenting and the imperfect character in each line matter as much as the finished piece. Her designs exist to bring warmth, character and a sense of storytelling into the home.

The Designs

Cat's collection covers three moods: heritage, coastal and children's rooms.

Heritage florals. Heritage Peony comes in Antique Pink and a bold Maximalist Yellow, a generous, painterly floral for dining rooms and bedrooms. Botanical Foliage in Pale Cream and Mustard, and Falling Leaves in Neutral and Antique Cream, are the softer side of the range, easy to live with in any room. Watercolour Meadows comes in Golden, Powder Blue and a moody Midnight.

Coastal. Summer Plunge, in Sky Blue and Peach Sand, is pure nostalgia: retro summer days by the water. Art Deco Painted Seashells in Deep Blue and Wild Palms in Green bring the beach house feel to bathrooms, powder rooms and living spaces.

Kids' rooms. Wild Bunnies and Oversized Rainbows in Boho Brown, and Enchanted Garden in Olive, are storybook designs in soft, grown-up colours. They are made for nurseries and kids' rooms that do not need to shout.

Where It Works

The neutral florals and leaves (Falling Leaves, Botanical Foliage) suit bedrooms, hallways and whole rooms. Heritage Peony earns its place as a feature wall. The coastal designs are a natural fit for well-ventilated bathrooms and powder rooms, and the storybook designs are ready for the nursery.
